PIGLET... PIGLET... PIGLET...

Piglet from Winnie the Pooh

Piglet, probably Pooh's best friend, he is also quite close to Christopher Robin and is capable of showing braveness way beyond his diminutive frame of a timid pink pig. Maybe that is why he is the only animal in the forest who has ever seen a real Heffalump (or was it Pooh he saw?). He keeps company with Christopher Robin while Christopher attends school. Piglet likes to wear a long striped shirt (this shirt used to be green but Disney changed it to pink) and his favourite food is Haycorns, to meet his food supplies he plants one just in front of his house and wishes that one day he will be receiving a useful supply. Whenever he gets nervous or when Tigger is bouncing exaggeratedly then his ears are twitching.

Piglet used to live in a Beech Tree, south of Pooh's house, 100 Acre Wood Southwest. Next to this house was a piece of a broken sign which read, "Trespassers W." This was believed to be Piglet's grandfather's name, and it is short for "Trespassers Will", which is short for "Trespassers William". Piglet's grandfather had had two names in case he lost one - Trespassers after his uncle, and William after Trespassers. Since Owl moved into Piglet's house, Piglet moved in with Pooh.

He is the second shortest of the 100 Acre Wood animals, only Roo is somewhat shorter than Piglet. Overall the two (Piglet & Roo) are quite similar in height and Kanga is not able to differentiate between the two when Piglet jumps into Kanga pouch in place of Roo. Piglet’s voice is said to be “squeaky”. Piglet is first introduced in the book Winnie-the-Pooh and figures prominently in The House at Pooh Corner. Piglet is a very active and helping animal and this can been adjudged from the fact that he helps Eeyore build his house, notices Small trapped underneath a gravel pit and lends a helping hand and also takes active part in playing Poohsticks. That’s not all, he helps rescue Owl & Pooh upon finding that they are stuck inside Owl’s fallen house.

Piglet has the ability to read and write, well enough to be able to write short notes. In an illustration in The House at Pooh Corner, it seems at though that Piglet pronounces his own name as “Piglit”, but upon reading the original text it stands as “Piglet”. Eeyore calls upon Piglet as “Little Piglet”. There are various fine things regarding Piglet that all off the other animals at the 100 Acre Wood appreciate but none more than Eeyore, he really appreciates Piglet for being what he is and also for the fact that Piglet helped rebuild his house. Piglet never hesitates one bit when Christopher calls upon everyone to take part in an expedition nor does he back off when Rabbit organizes a search operation to find a Small. But that’s him – Piglet, in spite of his diminutive size he takes up every challenge and has faced Heffalumps, Woozles, Wizzles and even Jagulars. These are fierce animals and Piglet has shown pluck in facing up to them

Piglet was not included in the 1st Disney Pooh movie, Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966). Piglet’s place was taken by Gropher. Thereafter Piglet has featured in every Disney Pooh release. The voice for Pooh's fearful little friend was provided by John Fiedler, who also played a fearsome creature in the original Star Trek series, episode 'Wolf in the Fold'. John Fiedler provided the voice for Piglet until his death on June 25, 2005. After his death, Travis Oates has been Piglet’s voice.
