It appears Singapore Airlines has decided on the name of its new no-frills, low-cost subsidiary
Come fly away with Scoot Airlines, Singapore Airlines' new budget carrier.
Scoot Airlines ... get used to the name because that's what Singapore Airlines (SIA) may be calling its new no-frills low-cost subsidiary.
According to a report by Flightglobal, the domain name scootairlines.com was registered in Singapore by SIA's advertising agency TBWA in late June.
The name is in line with other equally catchily named budget carriers such as Britain's easyJet and Flybe, AirAsia (Malaysia) and IndiGo (India).
According to trade publication Aviation Week, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, which is responsible for Singapore-registered trade marks, said SIA's application indicates it plans to use the brand name for airline and air travel services.
So far, SIA has not confirmed or denied the news.

The new budget carrier was announced in May and plans are underway for it to fly medium and long-haul routes by 2012 using existing Boeing 777-200s.
Guess they decided not to take Air Asia boss Tony Fernandes' suggestion to brand the airline as “Singapore X or Singapore Sling.”
