Apple Ordered More than 10 Million Units of iPad Mini for Q4 2012

WSJ: Apple Ordered More than 10 Million Units of iPad Mini for Q4 2012

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) claims in its latest report that Apple has ordered more than 10 million units of the iPad Mini for Q4 2012.
Quoting information from Asian component suppliers, the WSJ report also states that Apple's order size is estimated to be double that of Amazon for its Kindle Fire tablets in the same quarter.
While Amazon and Google have raced ahead of Apple to launch their new tablets this year, it seems that Apple is still confident that consumers' demand for the iPad Mini will be high enough to warrant such a huge order.
Apple is rumored to be unveiling a 7.85-inch iPad Mini on 17th October, which is about a week before the company will hold its Q4 earnings call on 25th October. In its Q3 earnings call, Apple was estimated to have sold approximately 17 million iPads between April and June.

Apple to Release A6-Powered iPad Alongside iPad Mini on 17 Oct?

It seems that Apple might be launching more than one tablet on 17th October as there are signs of a modified version of the current iPad model in the works.
According to MacRumors, a developer has seen evidence of an unknown "iPad 3,6" showing up on his app analytics log. What's even more interesting is that the device runs on a processor which is based on the new ARMv7s architecture. The same architecture is used in the A6 processor of the iPhone 5.
As a point of reference, the current iPad is designated "iPad 3,1", "iPad 3,2", and "iPad 3,3" for the Wi-Fi and cellular models. An "iPad 3,6"  designation could mean several things:
  • a derivative of the current iPad model
  • a tweaked version of the current iPad model with the new dock connector
  • a more powerful iPad model with the A6 processor
  • the next generation iPad model with the A6 processor or a variation of the chipset
The current iPad is in the market for about 7 months and Apple risks incurring backlash from consumers if it releases an upgraded version in the coming weeks.

More Leaked Photos of the iPad Mini Mockup Being Compared to Other Devices

Source: ttmop.com

Apple is said to be unveiling the 7.85-inch iPad Mini on the 17th of October with Fortune also suggesting that it is likely that the iPad Mini will hit retail shelves on 2nd of November if Apple sticks to its standard scheduling protocol. These comparison photos are timely of course, given the proximity to the date of reckoning. Previously, photos and videos of the iPad Mini have been of the standalone device and we are hoping these photos will give more insight to those looking to purchase a set.

As previously reported, the iPad Mini is said to resemble a big iPod Touch "with smaller bezels along the sides in portrait mode" and feature volume buttons quite unlike the rocker we have on the iPad and a mic at the back. A rear camera and if we may add, the smaller 19-pin dock connector have also been spotted on the back as well in previous leaks. This design has been consistently photographed across all leaked photos that we have seen so far, which gives us greater cause to believe that this is indeed its final design.

With a 7.85-inch screen, the iPad Mini is slightly larger than its Nexus 7 peer (as photographed together above). With the Nexus 7 just locally launched a few days back on the 29th of September and the iPad Mini's impending retail date to be set a month after, customers looking for a small tablet might just want to hold on to that thought before making the fated purchase.

New iPad Mini Renders Show Both Black and White Versions

Source: Gizmodo

With supposedly less than a week to go before Apple sends its invites for an iPad Mini launch event, many leaked images of the alleged device have unsurprisingly been popping out. This includes leaked images of ablack anodized aluminium iPad Mini and a nano SIM version. To add on, Gizmodo reader Martin Hajek - who previously made some relatively authentic iPhone 5 renders - has taken the effort to mock up what the iPad Mini might eventually look like. We dare say that they actually look very plausible, based on the information that has been streaming in. Here goes nothing:

At this point in time, we aren't sure whether the iPad Mini will take on a 7.0-inch or 7.85-inch form factor; while these renders are based on the latter, do take them with a pinch of salt.
