Report: Labour Market Third Quarter 2017

This quarterly release analyses the labour market situation. Topics covered include unemployment, employment, redundancy, re-entry into employment, job vacancy, labour turnover and hours worked.

Key Findings: The labour market improved in the third quarter of 2017. The unemployment rate for citizens declined between June and September 2017, and was unchanged for residents and at the overall. Retrenchments were lower than the past quarter and a year ago, and the rate of re-entry among retrenched residents rose. The ratio of job vacancies to unemployed persons continued to improve, even though there were still more unemployed persons than job openings. Although total employment continued to contract, the decline has eased.

The report also features a technical note on Measuring Unemployment. It addresses common questions and misconceptions related to the measurement and analysis of unemployment statistics.
