WSQ Perform Basic Stage Operations

A successful stage production is not merely what the performers do on stage. What happens out of the audience's view and how all the different parts come together seamlessly is just as important. Making this happen is no easy task and the production team has the responsibility for this. 

This foundation series is aimed at helping technicians upgrade their skills and for students of theatre to gain a deeper insight into technical theatre. It provides them with the basics needed to work in professional theatre. 

The different aspects of technical theatre will be covered in the respective modules:

Module 3: Fundamentals of Stage Lighting
Module 4: Fundamentals of Performance Sound 

WSQ Perform Basic Stage Operations

This 3-day training programme combines theory and practice in relation to working behind the stage in the arts or entertainment industry.  

Programme Description
The training covers the theory and practical aspects of assisting in preparing the stage area for technical set-up, basic theatre and staging terminologies, laying of floor for production according to stage plan, basic techniques of assembling and positioning of set and scenery pieces, hanging of drapes and bumping out at the end of a performance. 

To successfully complete the programme, the participant must attend the 3-day programme and undertake an assessment.

WSQ Demonstrate Knowledge of Production & Technical Theatre Practice

This 2-day programme provides the knowledge and understanding of working in technical productions in the arts or entertainment industry.  

Programme Description
The training covers the range of theatre genres, types of performance venues and staging configurations, staging, theatre space and staging terminologies, production process such as script reading, production meetings, roles and responsibilities and the dismantling (tear-down) process. 

To successfully complete the programme, the participant must attend the 2-day programme and undertake an assessment.

WSQ Erect, Maintain & Dismantle Working Platforms and Access Equipment

This 3-day training programme combines theory and practical work in relation to working on elevated work platforms.  

Programme Description
The programme covers the theoretical and practical aspects of operating elevated work platforms in which the height of platforms is adjusted by telescoping, scissor mechanisms, articulation, or any combination of these methods. 

The training will also cover the use of Tallescope, a mobile, manually operated telescopic ladder with a fixed basket. 

To successfully complete the programme, the participant must attend the 3-day programme and undertake a written and practical assessment.

WSQ Working Safely at Height

This 2-day training programme combines theory and practice in relation to working safely at height in the arts or entertainment industry.  

Programme Description
The training covers the theory and practical aspects of working at height including the following: understanding different types of general accessing equipment, the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent or arrest falls, identification of hazards and assessment of risks. 

To successfully complete the programme, the participant must attend the 2-day programme and undertake an assessment.

WSQ Basic Theatrical Rigging Programme - Part I

One of the most technically complex skills in the live entertainment industry is suspending theatrical equipment like lighting, speakers, trusses and scenic elements. Safe rigging is not guesswork and the repercussions of improperly rigged systems are life threatening. 

Programme Description
Theatrical Rigging Programme (Part I) consists of 3 Modules covering both theoretical and supervised practical experience and this will be conducted over 10½ days including assessment.  

Each of the training modules must be satisfactorily completed and participant must meet all requirements before undertaking the next level of training. 

Participants must also go through and pass the Signaling for Lifting Operation and Rigging Operation Certification before they are allowed to take module 2.

Music Score Reading Programme

The Music Score Reading Programme provides basic knowledge and understanding of music score reading for individuals with an interest in productions in the arts or entertainment industry. It will be conducted over 5 sessions in the evenings and each session is 3½ hours long. 

Programme Objective
This programme aims to equip the participant with knowledge of the rudiments in music score reading and its application. 

Programme Outline
• Different types of music scores
• Concept of pitch and notation
• Concept of pulse, tempi and rhythm
• Musical terms and abbreviations
• Basic theory
• Practical work in reading of scores
