More employers are willing to give ex-offenders a second chance, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said on Monday morning, highlighting that since 2007, there has been a 69 per cent increase in the number of those signed on provide jobs to those leaving prison.

There are now 2,700 employers signed up with the Singapore Corporative of Rehabilitative Enterprises, which helps match ex-offenders with jobs.

Mr Teo, who is also the Home Affairs Minister, was the guest-of-honour at the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) Annual Conference, which is being held in Singapore for the first time.

ICPA executive director Ed Wozniak commended Singapore for its 'clear mission to give ex-offenders skills to help them be successful on their return to the community', as well as for its commitment to heavily involving the community in an ex-offender's rehabilitation process.
